One of the most famous tourist activity is hiking through Corcovado national park. Corcovado is of the most biologically diverse and beautiful rain-forests in Central America! Over 350 species of birds, 115 species of reptiles and 750 species of trees can be found in this national park. Puerto Jimenez is the jump-off point for hundreds of tourists that want to visit the famous national park.
It is recommended to book a guide. Just ask us at Cabinas Tropicales – we work with several great guides who will take you on an amazing adventure! Prices vary depending on how much time you’d like to spend in the park! Usually included in guided tours: food, accommodation, transportation, and the guide! Usually you’ll start your trip at about 5am in the morning, and return around 11 – 12pm on your scheduled return day. For info on trails ask at the park office for more info! Hike La Tarde
La Tarde is a beautiful area just on the border of Corcovado National Park. Ecoturístico La Tarde is and Eco Lodge owned and operated by Eduardo, who has been living on the Osa Peninsula for more than 36 years. The hike is usually lead by long-term experienced La Tarde guide Mike Boston, who’ll give you a one-in-a-lifetime hike and experience. The eco-lodge provides an inexpensive lunch, so usually the hike will start and end at Eduardo’s eco-lodge.

This is an excellent choice if you don’t want to go through the process of getting park permits and also in case the park is full.
There is also an option to stay overnight at the eco-lodge for a full overnight off-grid jungle experience, just on the border of the National Park.
You can book any type of Sport fishing you’d like to do. From a full day off-shore fishing, where you can catch Sailfish, Marlin, and Yellow-fin Tuna, a half a day inshore fishing, where you may catch parrot fish, mahi-mahi, and snapper, to several days and overnight fishing trips… everything is possible!
Canopy Zip Lining Tours
You’ll be zip-lining in a beautiful rainforest about 20 minutes from Puerto Jimenez . The platforms are strung along nearly a mile of rainforest canopy reaching heights of 138ft . The company uses secure cables, fully certified instructors, and state of the art equipment and safety gear…! You can also do a Night Canopy tour! Length of the tour: about 3 hours – $75 per person
Dolphin Tour, Snorkeling, and Visit to a Wildlife Sanctuary
Go snorkeling at a brain coral reef and swim with dolphins, and visit a wildlife Sanctuary all in one trip! Typically you’ll see a wide variety of tropical fish, including parrot fish, snappers, turtles, sting-rays, & starfish… and if conditions are right, you’ll be “dragged” behind the boat on a blank and literally “swim” next to dolphins ! You’ll also visit a wildlife sanctuary “Caño Blanco” on the other side of the Gulfo Dulce, where you’ll see most of Costa Ricans animals, such as monkeys, sloths, ocelots, toucans, and much more! Length of the trip: about 4 – 5 hours , from $75 per person (depending on number of people)
Mangrove Kayak Tour, Sea Kayaking and Sea Kayak Fishing
There are several different Kayak Tours that you can do – the most popular tour is a “late afternoon sunset tour”, including kayaking through a magical mangrove forest labyrinth and the calm ocean bay of Puerto Jimenez and the Gulfo Dulce. From $35 per person, this tour is a bargain, and “kayak-Joe” will teach you not only how to kayak, but tells you everything he knows about the mangroves, cooking, and fishing.
Kayak Fishing – Inshore fishing in the calm bay of Puerto Jimenez in the Gulfo Dulce. Usually in the early morning or late afternoon. You can catch parrot fish, snapper, mackerel, and many more tropical fish.
Tree Climbing and Waterfall Rappelling
Tree Climbing: You’ll climb an enormous Strangler Fig to a platform about 70 ft up on the tree, overlooking the Gulfo Dulce. At the end you can choose to “swing and freefall” off the tree.
Length of tour: 2 – 3 hours, $55 per person
Waterfall Rappelling: You’ll rappel two waterfalls, one is 45 ft and the other 100 ft! You’ll receive thorough instruction for use of equipment, safety gear, and all important know-how of safe rappelling.
Half a day, $85 per person.
Combination Tour – Both, Tree Climbin and Waterfall Rappelling in a 5 hour tour for only $120 per person.
There are over 800 bird species in Costa Rica – and you can spot a lot of them on the Osa Peninsula! You will head to tertiary, secondary, and primary forests close to Puerto Jimenez to spot as many bird species as possible. With some luck you may see a beautiful Trogon (photo).

Hike by night to spot various night-active creatures, including frogs, snakes, bats and mammals. All tours are lead by experienced and professional guides. You’ll head into a primary forest close to Puerto Jimenez, usually for about 3 hours at night. Prices depend on the size of the group and the length of time you’d like to hike for. Ask us for details and we’ll arrange a guided tour for you.
Horseback Riding on the Osa Peninsula Beaches
You’ll be picked up by the guide (with the horses) at the Cabinas and start your horse riding trip here! You’ll ride along the beautiful coast and beaches around Puerto Jimenez! You can choose what you want to do, where you want to ride to, and how long you’d like to ride out for. Starts from $15 per hour/ per person.
Chocolate Tour Finca Köbö
Chocolate Farm Köbö experiments with organic cocoa plantations, and you’ll learn about their methods of cultivation and production. You’ll do a tour around the farm, learn about different Cocoa plants, and see the plantations. At the end of the tour you’ll be served fresh fruits produced at the farm, along with pure organic chocolate sauce… yum!
